Design, Manufacturing and Optimization of SMC-PMSMs and Drive Systems of Six Sigma Quality
2018-01-07

Abstract:

The Centre for Green Energy and Vehicle Innovations (CGEVI) is a research cluster in the University of Technology Sydney, Australia. Since early 1990s, the CGEVI researchers have been working in the field of electrical machines, drive systems, renewable power generation, in particular wind and photo voltaic systems, and applications.

The soft magnetic composite (SMC) is a new kind of material for manufacturing low cost high performance electrical machines by the highly matured powder metallurgical technology. Some industrial companies have recently started commercial production of SMC motors. This presentation reports systematically the recent CGEVI research advances on characterization of SMC materials, design, manufacturing, and optimization for six sigma quality mass production of SMC permanent magnet synchronous motors (SMC-PMSMs), and drive systems.
